At the end of February, our amazing Music Teacher Mrs. Althea Reid shared her testimony with our 4th-8th grade students in their weekly Chapel. She shared the moving story of her experience of racial discrimination throughout her childhood and youth. Interweaving Scripture passages (such as Jeremiah 29:11-12, Genesis 50:20, Psalm 32:8 and Proverbs 3:5-6) into her story, she modeled the central role God’s Word plays in shaping our hearts and lives.
In response to one early experience of racial injustice, she realized that “A seed could have been planted in me to truly dislike white people . . . but my mother reminded me that ‘what the Enemy intended for your harm, God would always turn for your good’ (Genesis 50:20) . . . God wants you to love that man who threw you out of the theater.”
God graciously redeemed events in her life that at first glance were destructive and painful into opportunities and blessing, such as the privilege of being mentored by the legendary singer Marian Anderson.

She told the students how God defused the seed of anger and hatred, and by His gracious involvement in her life gave her a conviction to practice forgiveness and racial reconciliation.
Mrs. Reid’s testimony of God’s goodness and mercy is a beautiful example of the wise, godly, committed men and women that are part of the WCCS teaching community. We are privileged to have teachers like Mrs. Reid leading and influencing our students.
