About Preschool
Curriculum
(As children mature and show readiness, they are introduced to the following skills.)
Literacy
- Teachers share nursery rhymes, songs, Bible stories, fiction, non-fiction, and fairy tales to develop phonemic awareness and an appreciation for children's literature.
- Children develop vocabulary through a variety of experiences and games.
- Children learn to match sounds, recognize differences, sequence, and match letters with sounds.
- Children learn to write letters, numbers, and their names.
Math
- Children develop math sense through using manipulatives such as beads, blocks, and puzzles.
- Children learn to recognize shapes and numbers, count, sort, and recognize patterns.
- Children gain experience with the calendar.
Science
- Children learn about nature through books and experiences involving seeds, fish, insects, reptiles, birds, pets, and other animals.
- Children learn about weather and the seasons.
- Children learn how their bodies work.
Health and Physical Education
- Children learn the importance of exercise, cleanliness, rest, and safety.
- Children learn the importance of good nutrition and have experiences with cooking.
- Children develop large muscle control through climbing, running, jumping, riding, sliding, skipping, balancing, throwing, and group activities.
Art and Music
- Children gain experience with a variety of media through coloring, using chalk, making collages, and various types of painting (finger, brush, marble, string, and sponge).
- Children participate in music experiences including singing, dancing, marching, and rhythm instrument activiities.
Character Development
- Children learn to share, take turns, help others, and treat others courteously.
- Children are taught the importance of honesty, obedience, kindness, responsibility, and respect for their peers, adults, and the property of others.
- Children are encouraged to pray at mealtimes and when special needs arise.
- Teachers share stories from the Bible which foster Christian values.
- Children are taught that God loves them.
